Fuel cuts off at high RPM

postby GeorgeG5 » 10/28/13 @ 03:58

So yesterday, going ~100MPH on a highway, the RPM suddenly drop a bit, like when you hit a revlimiter, but not so fast. So I tried to do it again and it's happening at ~ 5500 RPM. I didn't do anything to the car in the last few days, last change was a roadster tuner engine mount.

Any ideas what may be the problem? I'll try to get a video up tonight

It must be cold where you're at. How's the humidity? Is it possible that your philter element is clogged with moisture and/or ice?

So you're telling me that it's colder here in north Florida, USA, than it is over there? Fuck me lol

Still, hows the humidity? Had rain recently? I had a problem with this when my philter got wet.

Also, does your manifold have VTCS like US NB8s?

It's quite warm, yeah :)

humidity was ~ 70% when it happened, but it never happened before and I'm driving the car all year long in sun/rain/snow. No VTCS or any other valve system in the NB6 manifold

i had this problem with my 94 and my 97 both 1.8. have you check you fuel philter thats infront of the rear passanger tyre? i was also told to check plugs wires maf ecu from another roadster club net phorum. checked, cleaned, and replaced all those parts just to find out that my inline fuel philter was full of trash. if its dirty i would suggest going into your back dash and pulling the fuel pump. check the sock on it and with a flash light (not a drop light) look inside your tank and see if there is rust settlement in the tank. a little bit of rust on the walls is ok as long as you dont disturb it. if there is rust in the tank get a scotch bright pad and scrubb it up. drain your fuel befor scrubbing. the drain plug is rubber coated just scrap the goo off and save your gas. screen it and put it back in after rinsing the tank. the tank plug is on the driver side of the tank. there is no need to drop the tank. its a pain in the ars hole. plus your car will be down for 2 days if you dont have a proper shop.

The inline fuel philter shouldn't be hard to get to and should only take 20-30 minutes if you take your time. However I only have experience on NA's so it might be slightly different on NB's, but it can't be that far off.

This blasphemy was happening to me also. Only in 5th gear at 5500rpm. I fixed it. AKA, pulled off the throttle, and reapplied.
