postby Teejay187 » 12/18/13 @ 10:37

Hi all,

I am soon going to mount a Mini M45 in my `99 Miata 1.8

Anyone have experience in doing just that? I need as much info as I can get!

I can probably find an instruction sheet for you. Do you have the rest of the kit or just the blower? We maybe have some parts for the kit left over but I doubt we could make a kit. I'm out of the office today but email me at knightc@mossmotors.com and I'll get working on it tomorrow.

I only have the blower. I bought it on impulse for 300$. Brand new it seems.

If you have parts, I`ll buy :tits:

Is that from the Jackson racing kit? If so I recommend getting rid of it and piecing together a cheap low boost turbo kit instead. I have a friend who ran it on his car, the whole kit is currently sitting in his drawer, been that way for over a year meow. I bought a car with the kit on it, to part out, tried installing the kit on a friend's car to prove it works. It did but was a huge pain in the ass to get dialed in. I snapped multiple belts before getting it right, and the bov and idle was never quite perfect.

I am going with the supercharger because I want it to be easy to remove in the future. I am not allowed to install the SC kit without registering it for the price of 10K$. So I do it anyways and disconnect it when I am doing the periodic check..

Guess that makes sense, me and my friend installed the kit on his car in like 2 hours. We spent a whole day dialing it in so that it didn't squeal like a stuck pig, could idle without jumping all over, and the bov setup... that never seemed to work right for long, the say it's set up is just stupid.

Post some shots of the blower from different angles so I can get an idea of what you're working with.

My car is a 1.6 with a Jackson/Sebring M45 on it. At least I'll have an idea of what you need.
Does your car have powersteering?

The mounting brackets will be the easiest. I am more wondering about the wideband o2 sensor, ECU and that stuff. If someone has done the same build, I could have a look at their tuning files for example.

OK TJ,

I heard back from Blaine in our Tech Dept. He reports most of the "popular" parts are gone. He recommends you call him directly to chat about what we have available. His number is 800-667-7872 ext 3237. If he doesn't answer when you call please leave a message. Our tech guys are always very busy on the phones! He will return your call as soon as he's able, we promise.

Good luck! Keep me posted if there is anything further I can do for you.

From what I've seen, people run FPR and timing retard boxes (voodoo box, bipes), with this kit. Some run a 5th injector setup controlled by a Link.

But really, please don't expect that we'll have everything you need, unfortunately. That M45 kit was discontinued many years ago. I hope we can help get you started on sourcing stuff though!

the JR m45 is different (inlet for example).

Check the MX5nutz.com (UK site), plenty of information, do it the right way and do the dual TB to get rid of the unstable idle bigx5murf mentioned

I`d love to buy the bracket! The tensioner and belt should be the same as the ones used on the JRSC right? You bought the inlet and outlet from TR lane?

nope, I got the charger and complete TR Lane kit for less than the price of the kit alone(which is absurd at 480 GBP or so before shipping) from a guy with Triumph Spitfire... I'll have to find a way to mount the charger etc first, before I let go of any part of the kit though...

I'm running just an AFPR and MSD boost retard box on my car, factory ECU.

Once you sort the bracket out to mount the blower and the inlet/outlet you're pretty much golden. The tensioner they sell for the JR kits will work as long as you line your blower up with the power steering/ac belt.

With a standalone you don't need anything other than factory FPR, you can control fueling directly with the injectors, you don't need to bandaid it. I have the AFPR because I don't have a standalone.

Like GeorgeG5 said, head over to MX5nutz. TR Lane in the UK makes the bracketry to put the Mini blower on our cars (or maybe they used to, if that's the case you'll have to find a used set).

My car had one of the original JRSC kits installed when I bought it. I had no idle issues at all. The biggest cause of the idle droop is when you up the boost and install an intercooler, the increased inlet volume screws up the IAC valve. There are several ways around this, I have read you can tune it out with a Megasquirt which is what I'm trying to do. There is also the dual throttle body route, or you can get a remote mount for the IAC and then plumb in the lines where they won't be affected by the intercooler volume.

they still make the kit but the price is even more bonkers meow at 525 GBP. That's almost the same used JRSC kits go for stateside.

I'm still working on the coldside mount and if I finish it, I'll have the whole kit available except for the inlet which is the old version that won't work with LHD car

I've just found a local source for a mini bypass valve for less than 40GBP. I'll see if the guy has more than one(for me) and could get it and ship it to you.

the brace thing makes a hard connection between the charger and tensioner/PS pump bracket, looks mostly like this (the thing in front)
