I enjoy the look, I hated the announcement style,
But the renders I've seen have been looking pretty good

The bumper/rear is super ugly. They should have done a more traditional tail light/finish panel area with a regular looking bumper.

agreed, the rear end has to much going on, i wish it would have just been like the rear turn signals all the way, instead of that large O just kinda coming out of no where

yea seriously, 130hp is too many steps backwards. It should at least have NC power imo. Even with the weight reduction.

Re: i guess we need a thread for the nd miata
I was chatting with some.. err "people" about the Skyactiv engines and the strength of the components. With the bearing surface area the limit of the crank/rods is around 220.
That isnt too bad, not exactly BP strength. It is a bummer for forced induction though, plan on rods and pistons.

Re: i guess we need a thread for the nd miata
I thought skyactiv was all about lightening internal components in the motor. If that's the case, doesn't that mean the internals gotta be forged? Not to mention the skyactiv-D motor used in speed challenge was supposed to be like 70% stock, and that thing was pushing 500hp.

The diesels are a different beast. Those motors are a sturdy, it is the gas engines which are on the meh for forced induction.

so Mazda supposedly stated that US market will get 2.0 Skyactive G and all the other regions will get 1.5
the fuck? I don't have nor will have money to buy the ND, but if I did, I'd want the more powerfull engine

Re: i guess we need a thread for the nd miata
Didn't that happen in the past too with both NB and NC? I thought Europe had some tax for too much displacement or something? Personally I would've been ok if they just carried over the NC drivetrain. The NC drivetrain is actually a great boost platform, unfortunately I'm guessing it's bath tub looks have kept people from really trying to build it up.
Looking at the bay shots we've seen so far, doesn't look like it's gonna be easy to get a turbo in there. I'm thinking a centrifugal SC might be the way to go. Sounds like the high comp won't be able to handle much boost anyway. Hopefully the thing will have a stock wideband, and ECU is similar enough to speed3 for a cobb AP to show up on market soon.

Re: i guess we need a thread for the nd miata
we (Czech Republic) have insurance based on your age, location and engine displacement/power, but the 1.6 and 1.8 that were in NA/NB are in the same bracket so no difference.
IMO the main reason was that no one would want the less powerfull engine in your land of 'murikah where gas is so cheap everyone's driving 25l engines and don't give a fuck about mileage... unlike us poor third world citizens with our much more expensive gas.
In case of NA, NB and NC, all markets got both engines (1.6/1.8 for NA/NB and 1.8/2.0 for NC) except US, that got only the most powerful engine. meow it seemed that you'll get just the 2.0 and the rest of the world will get just the 1.5, but from other articles about the ND it seems that it's just bad wording and it will be the same as with previous generations

Yellow or Black will be my first choice.
Also Mazda PR dude Kudo Hideyoshi eluded to there possibly being a larger engined or turbo version in the near future. Turbo would make sense given the spotted turbo test mules wearing Chrysler ident tags running around - why waste all that R&D even thought the shared Alfa/Mazda venture is "off?"

Re: i guess we need a thread for the nd miata
If Mazda does give us a turbo model I am betting it will be on the 1.5 engine. There are several reasons for this but the biggest is the 2.0/2.5 Skyactiv motors do not have enough strength from what I have been told in the mains/rod bearing sizes. It was estimated they would be good for around 240whp.
With the 1.5 engine getting so much attention in the design in the MX-5 I am betting it was built to take boost unlike the 2.0/2.5 which was destined for people movers and fuel economy first.
