1.5L turbo argument sounds likely. Other similar displacement turbos on the market right meow have been pretty crappy for wringing more power out of. From what I've seen, boosting deep into the 20psi range won't even crack 200whp.

I don't know if it really is a Mazda 3 underneath, but that's how it strikes me.

If I wanted a car, I'd buy a sedan, wagon, or hatch.

image

If I wanted an SUV, I'd buy an SUV.

image

If I wanted a sports car, I'd buy a sports car... etc, etc. You get the point.

So then we end up with this mess...

image

Beyond being hideous, it is labelled as an SUV to keep the soccer moms happy. Other than handling a few inches of snow, it's not doing jack shit as an SUV. It has the cargo, but is meow tall, less enjoyable to drive, and less stable than your average car as I'm sure it rolls more. Blind spots are probably awful and it can't tow anything.

So, yeah...rant over. Crossovers are stupid because they take two cars that did things well and makes one that meow does everything not very well. But people love them, because most people are bad at cars. Don't even get me started on trucks these days...

Back to the ND. Which I wouldn't buy if I wanted the features of a sedan. :suicide:

Ok if we jump off the deep end on the 2016 MX5s for upgrades, besides the usual suspect of parts what is something cool you guys would want to see. Think of something for the NA/NB which isn't made but would be cool to see?

Low profile seat mounts with sliders. Memory fab made some for the na/nb, but meow they're really difficult to come by.

Some functional under body diffuser front and rear. All na/nb has are $400 brackets to attach a diy front diffuser, and nothing for the rear.

A 21st century tuning solution, a flashing device like cobb ap, or k-pro.

Sounds like we have some work to do, lol!

We had been tossing around the idea of a tuner.

na/nb have well developed aftermarkets. so it was hard coming up with stuff that isn't available on them.

But yea, tuner would probably have greatest demand. But could be difficult due to skyactiv motor complexity. I wonder if they'll have the fuel pump issues ms3/ms6 have.

I has answers for the skyactiv stuff already :)

Pumps are fine, Mazda learned.

Keeping my fingers crossed for legit NA gains. but probably not gonna happen lol. Love to be proven wrong, and have the ND be a viable alternative to K swaps.

There is quite a bit to be had with the motors. You can mess around with the VVT quite a bit to get more gains for better fuel which we have found so far. Get a bigger cam grind in there and :tits:

I do recall goodwin racing getting a 2.5mzr up to 270whp, which is insane. But I'm guessing the work required is just too intensive.

I'll be impressed if the 2.0 skyactiv can break 200whp NA.

I haven't seen the dyno sheets but BBR in the UK claims that have already.

Nice to see they added Brembos, BBS Wheels, and aero to the options list!

So I read somewhere that Mazda has put an active grille on the car to help with fuel economy by limiting airflow under certain conditions. That is going pretty far for fuel economy and aero improvements.

That's not new though, I thought Ford did that with the latest generation Focus. Maybe. I don't remember exactly who did it, but I remember seeing those "active" grills before.

I just thought it was rather weird for a sports car unless there is some performance gain to be had (besides fuel economy)

hmm, is BHP at the wheels? If that's true a bolted ND would demolish a FRS/BRZ.

They didn't say for sure. I haven't actually seen any real proof of the claims either which is kind of odd for those guys.

A dealer told me the cars should be available in June. This is the second confirmation I have heard, hooray! Should make for a great summer!

Yes it did. I think I found someone to buy my FC Rx7 as well just in time for the new car to arrive.
