So anyway, my mom's got that old asian thinking, and believe she has to take care of her parents at their old age. Both her parents are pretty much losing their minds, not to mention are divorced and hate each other. My grandmother's been living with us for the past 10 years, she lived with me for 3 years (it was horrible). Basically she's a huge hypochondriac, and complains about her life non-stop, and keeps insisting on living alone (which we've tried for 6 months and she went into huge depression, which of course she no longer remembers). Whatever, we got used to her. Except, meow that she has to share and apt with grandpa, she's gotten exponentially worse.

1 months ago, my mom brings her dad here too. Because the home care lady that was taking care of him was ripping him off, taking about $60k/yr from him, and he only had like $30k left in savings. My uncles have given up on him. Anyway, he's purposely made 3 care persons quit in a matter of a month. Attacked my mother with a knife, and spent $16k of hospital fees. Tried to blow up the apt by leaving the gas on. Pissed everywhere, while denying it. My dad's surprised moved in with me last weekend, because he got tired of living with a time bomb.

My mom won't listen to any of us about sending the old man away. I'm tempted to pillow smother one of these nights.

Yeah sure... send them away. That's totally not fucking lame to do to your elders that raised your parents who probably gave them their fair share of headaches.

You best believe my parents will absolutely be staying with me when theyre old as shit. They see me in, I see them out.

I don't care how crazy, (although my Mom is going to be one of those crazy old ladies) I'll fucking deal.

This is one staple of American culture I always dispised.

So your saying that you'd be cool with your parents trying to kill you?

It's not a matter of not wanting to see them out, but clearly when they attack you with a knife and try to blow the house up they need a different state of care.

Yeah, nailed it. There is dealing with stubborn personalities and then having someone who needs some serious professional care.

My grandmother had dementia, which eventually led to her death (awful way to go for us, she didn't know any better) and we were not able to provide the care she needed, which was skilled nursing 24/7/365. My grandfather is just stubborn, we take care of his needs for meow.

My gma just recently started having dimensia spouts and my family is unable to take care of her fulltime. So we shipped her off to live with my uncle and aunt in PA. meow I have a house to sell and free car. #winning?

I'm getting to the age where I don't really expect my grandparents to be around much longer, there's only 2 left and their on their way out. It's sad but it's a part of life.

It doesn't make sense how differently people age. Both my grandparents on my mother's side have turned extremely selfish, and have these bouts I've described.

On my father's side, my grandma is 15 years younger than my grandpa. She's got horrible Alzheimer's, and can't remember stuff from 10 minutes ago. She needs lots of care. My grandpa on the other hand is still as sharp as ever, still works everyday at the age of 90, hired 2 assistants that that basically read/responds his emails, dials the phone, and reads him the news. Because the only thing's he lost seems to be his vision, he wakes up at 5am every morning to go hiking to this little spot he bought in the mountains.

I won't disagree with this. It's purely anecdotal but we saw my grandmother go downhill fast mentally when she basically said "I'm old" and became sedentary and extremely habit driven.

Took care of my grandpa and he was quite "aggressive" (algerian revolutionary war vet). Get trained on how to deal with their episodes. Why can someone else do it but not you?

Sorry, but after seeing how my dad took care of his dad until he went it made a very distinct impression.

Yea, except, we're all still working full time. We've got a family business to run, and can't be there for him all the time. We've been taking turns watching him, and meow works backed up weeks already. My grandapa is also a war vet, fought for the japs at 15, and became a captain by 17. He was fucked in the head before his mind started going. He threatens to kill everyone he meets.

Yesterday my grandma took a cab to our office just to complain about us stealing something of hers, when she clearly threw it out herself the day before but of course couldn't remember.

Well I just got a call grandpa went out, went into some random store, sat down. refused to leave, started throwing merchandise at people, and had to be forcibly removed by the police. He made another care taker leave last night, by threatening to kill her if she didn't trim his toe nails. We were in the process of looking for another. meow I'm off to figure out how to get him out of bookings. There goes my work day.

I had one guy kill himself shortly after I insulted him for saying something pretty retarded on the interwebs.

I'd like to think people aren't weak enough to kill themselves over what one guy on the otherother side of the country said.

Then again.... I made a guy kill himself has a certain power behind it.

I have over 2000 hours of experience sitting with and taking care of patients with extreme dementia/Alzheimers. I am a master of dealing with them. It is a terrifically easy principle. You agree to what they say, and you redirect their attention. You don't try to explain things to them or tell them that they are wrong or that they can not do something. You find creative ways to redirect their focus, in a pleasant and charming way. If there is some "person in the corner", you tell them, "Well, I was hired to protect you from that, and I'll take care of it.". Simple shit, once you get the hang of it.
