FAQ

Q: Can I have matching center caps made?!?!
A: Sorry. The epoxy I'm using on the keychains is not suitable for outdoor exposure. It will yellow in the sun. That means I can't do wheel center caps yet. I'm trying different types of jeweler's resin and am hoping to be able to offer the center caps soon.

Q: Can I have a custom keychain made for my Dodge/Lamborghini/RX-7/Jeep Scrambler?
A: Sure! The cost will be a bit higher. Check out the Custom Keychain Page for more details.

Q: Can I order a horn button from you?!??
A: Not yet. I don't have a good source for blank horn buttons. If you have a blank horn button in your posession and the button itself is perfectly flat, then yes. I could make you a domed insert for it. Cost would be in the custom keychain area.

And here's a few custom ones I've made so far.

The Star Shark one is for Sharka. Bronze to match his SSR wheels. The striped SSR keychain was one of my first color tests. It worked very well IMHO.

Volk Racing, Martini Racing, and Speed Star Racing. All custom designs for some friends in far off lands.

I feel like I'm going to own everything Revlimiter eventually. I have a Flying V from R2, so I can say that these are good keychains! Sucks for me though. I can't heel toe with a keychain on without almost snagging it and shutting the car off.

Version Eunos meow comes in black as a standard color! It was a special order, but it seemed logical to do as a standard one. It's just so pretty.

revlimiter Keychain - Destructive Testing

image

I’m not extremely thrilled to be bringing you this post. I mean, I always want everything to work perfectly from the beginning. Doesn’t everyone? But it’s not as bad as it could be. The poor tortured objects in the photo above have some stories to tell.

I put some of my new keychains through hell. This is how they held up.

image

image

image

The three fob inserts were my short term test subjects. They all use some printed vinyl in their composition. Two have some cut vinyl (chrome) laid on top of the printed material.

Torture test one -
1) Soaked under warm water for 5 minutes. Results: No change in condition.
2) Soaked under cold water for 30 minutes. Results: No change in condition.
3) Left under water for an evening while I made gauges. ~120 minutes submerged time. Results: As you see above.

Results-
All suffered a bit of water damage on the edges after their long soak. The worst is probably the Version NOS where the blue circle darkened on the edge. The M Edition badge had more water damage, but the red didn’t show it as badly as the blue on the NOS badge.

And meow for the destroyed keychain.

image

This was literally the first keychain I made. I printed it, put it on a blank, and put it outside in my backyard. That was three weeks ago. It’s been a hard three weeks here in New Mexico.

Torture test two-

1) ~10 hours of sun each day. I set it in a spot that gets sunrise to sunset exposure.
2) Temperature swings from 15*F to 70*F. This is not an exaggeration. We had a week of spring weather book-ended by a couple weeks of winter.
3) A nice sandblasting for a couple days. Sustained winds in the 50 mph range.
4) 2″ of snow followed by thaw and sitting in a puddle for most of a day (earlier today).

Results –
The keychain is NOT in good condition. You can see the printed design behind the cut chrome vinyl. It’s destroyed. The dome has yellowed slightly. Even the blank (the metal keychain) has a bit of pitting. It was a very hard three weeks.

So. What does this mean for domed item production moving forward?

1) I will be using cut vinyl as much as possible and printed vinyl as little as possible.
2) Designs that require printed vinyl will be marked as delicate or “Not for outdoor exposure” on the product page.
3) Printed vinyl will never be used on any future products that might live on the exterior of a car. Wheel center caps and badges and so forth.

Nothing like learning as you go, eh?

revlimiter Keychains

postby phillyb™ » 02/05/14 @ 03:30

ok.
i love rev being up front, obviously.
i love the fact that he's willing to admit potential issues.
i'm pooping right meow.
but let's think about this...
are your keychains going to be subjected to the same kind of conditions that rev outlines in the post above?

i'll never leave my keychain out in the cold or submerge it in any water. and if you do, fuck you.

don't go to rev with this kind of bullshit.

figure out why your keychain has been subjected to these conditions and talk to me before you fuck with any vendor on this phorum.

thanks for the results rev. you done good.

I own the actual KG Works gift set, and the keychain that shipped with it is significantly different. I think mine is a bit nicer actually...

A pair of keychains for Dave of Dave's Garage. Based on the Version Eunos.

A custom keychain for Keith of FM fame. Based off the tach I made him.

Another shot to show the size of the details. The Lego minifig is pretty huge compared.

It's simple and elegant and all cut vinyl. It can go swimming with you.

I've already done some custom versions. Both were for a customer with a BRG car.

And then there was the custom order for some 80s inspired keychains. I went crazy designing stuff. I think the red bar one on the right will become a standard item.

I've added some new keychains to my store!

Version Eunos 2:
I had a custom order for this one. It's the same as my Eunos badge. Seemed logical to make up a whole bunch and put them in as a regular item.
image

image

Type MS:
Another custom order that became a regular item. A buddy ordered it in red. I did a batch in black to see how they'd look. I liked them and thought I'd put both as options.
image

image

image

Type V Makeover
I completely re-drew the Type V artwork to make it more accurate to the original logo. Took a while, but the result is so worth it. I also changed the colors. I'm meow using a darker blue that's a match for the original and gold foil instead of gold metallic vinyl.

image

image

and this is the old one.
