It is with a heavy heart I share the news that our cat has passed away due to kidney failure.
Gizmo apparently was older than we thought (Vet estimated 12-13 years old.)
He died easy, and peacefully in my lap.
We rescued him from abusive white trash owners (who apparently even lied about his age to us.)
He lead a great life, and was our constant companion. He was the only cat I have seen that loved rides. I would put him on the rear deck area of the Miata and tie his leash to the roll bar and he would sit there with his whiskers blowing in the wind. He loved scooter rides as well, I had to mount a basket on the front just for him. He would wait every wednesday (that is when I would check the mail) by the scooter.
He could open doors, cabinets, and enjoyed moving his box houses around to whatever suited his mood. He smiled, a lot. You could tell.
He was the wife and I's first mutual endeavor soon after moving in together. He loved the U-Haul truck ride when we moved.
He would later be the star of our wedding announcement. He was fairly famous among my car friends that met him due to his antics. I remember my friend (MMA fighter - 6'5 325lbs) was watching our house and Gizmo for a week while we were out of town. He woke up at 3AM in full attack mode thinking someone had broken into the house - yet it was just Gizmo looking for us, opening and closing all the doors in the place.
He loved my Desert Eagle 44mag. He Loved to watch Mythbusters. Whenever it was on, he would sit in his box watching the TV. When it went off, he would go do whatever pressing matter was on his itinerary.
We was the best pet I have ever had, and he wasn't really a pet. He was family, to the point where my friends would always ask when I saw them "How is Faith?" and immediately next - "How is Gizmo?"
He had more personality and character than 99% of the people I know. He will be truly missed, and we are glad that he was our companion during most of his life. Other than my wife, he was my most treasured thing in the world. I would have traded the Miatas, guns, and other material possessions in a heartbeat just to keep him happy and alive for another few years.
This weekend I am adding him to the hood of my car in paint pen and sharpie - he will be overlooking the herd of marmots already on it.
