Suggestions on How To's?

postby andy » 10/10/13 @ 00:59

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to's that they would like to see? I am in the works of putting together a how to for the window guides on our cars.

someone just did an AWESOME write up for shin-etsu on cr.
get some of that while you're at it.

what are some questions that get asked a lot?
if we can anticipate those questions, we can make how-to's which target that question and prevent the question.

Only problem is I did not want to directly take his work. That is his. I can certainly ask him and persuade him to join this forum and enlighten us.

we can incorporate troubleshooting steps, links to certain parts of the article, blah blah blah

we can't compete with .net/garage but we can possibly do something that could be an addendum to their garage.

How to: suspension swap, will these wheels fit?. DIY fender roll, bushings, convertable top installation, shifter rebuild, engine raise, NA/NB dash removal.

Just some of the suggestions that I can think of off the top of my head. Most common ones IMO

Looks like my router took a dump just meow. Posting from my iphone. I have an idea for a review section on tools or parts. I'll elaborate more tomorrow from a computer.

My internet is back.

Yes and lets have a better review section. The miata.net review is about 8 years old at this point on the newest item.
infact I think there should be a whole sub section for reviews and within there there should be interior, exterior, engine... and within each of those we can have specific reviews for items.

lets also review some tools like spring compressors, floor jacks, wrenches...

A review section with a garage section like m.net. They have a lot of really helpful info like what codes are being thrown with the paperclip method and just easy simple stuff like that.

.net garage is great and all but there are numerous articles without pictures or clear steps and the index needs some organization.
A GOOD how-to should incorporate a tools needed list, pictures with arrows/circles, and should be clearly broken down into steps not just a paragraph of grammar fail.
I'll poop in your butt hole and then you will poop it back into my butt and we will keep doing it back and forth with the same poop. Forever.

I am not oppose to borrowing material that was a con census amongst a community such as the suspension hierarchy. I do have a little bit of a problem with taking someone else's work and just posing it up.

If you intend on doing that give them due credit. As add something to the mix like photos.

It can also be updating. Take a write-up, fill in the gaps, add pictures, etc. I see no problem with that what-so-ever. Like any Wiki, the sources can be cited and credit given.

Can this site be updated to add a WikiMiata section?

I am not that familiar with linking shit around. This is php and I am more of a html-guy :P That being said. I can give FTP access to a subfolder on the server, so you can setup a web page/wiki or whatever :)

One thing I thought of was to direct this forum to clubphillyb.net/forum and make a front page of some kind to navigate either to the forum or to the wiki.

this is pretty low on my priority list, but we will eventually do this.

i know how to write the wiki articles, but don't necessarily know how to install the wiki page. i'll found out though. it can't be too difficult.

I think a how to on replacing just about anything is good. There are some people that aren't as mechanically inclined as others, my friends for example, so anything really helps.
