Think we may be seeing the end of the Fleury era in Pittsburgh. Defense seems to have given up in front of him and he's been letting 'em in like it's a Black Friday sale.

Fleury got benched after stopping only 12 of 16 shots against FREAKING OTTAWA.

Ugh.

I'm loving the Maurice Richard trophy race. Like, I hate the Pens, but like you said earlier in the thread, Crosby's scoring at an unbelievable rate. In a game where the team puts up 8, I'm a little taken aback that he only had one. lol.

I digress though, FUCK THE PENS.
I want Laine to win it.

Murrary still has a chance.

Personally, I'd like to see Werenski win (he plays D for CBJ). He just got a Calder Cup with Cleveland/Lake Erie last year :)

They got beat...
And their next game is against the Rangers. Hahaha. Let's see how that goes. The rags are consistently winning games this season, but I can't help but get frustrated with them. Hank's letting in softies left and right. The fucking defense is anchored with terrible contracts and leaves us a big hole night in and night out. But the offense...sometimes they can put up 5 goals with what looks like zero effort, and then get shutout the next game. Wild.

Rags just beat CBJ last night...
Torts was probably pissed...the second Rags goal was Kevin Hayes stripping the puck from a defender and taking it hard to the net, but think Torts would be pissed about the puck stripping.

That just doesn't fit his defensive style play. lol.

The metro is still insane...and holy shit Washington. I haven't been paying any attention to them, but holy shit!

Rags are gonna hang out in the WC1 slot. God, I'd love to beat MTL again, even though Therrien isn't behind the bench anymore. But who knows, I wonder if OTT can squeak out the #1 spot over there.

Who's making waves for the Rangers? Raanta seems to have proved himself to be a more than adequate backup to King Henrik. Klein is making a name for himself, no?

Raanta might be who we lose in expansion. Remember Talbot being Hank's backup? Thank our G coach, Benoit Allaire, for taking young guys and making them exceptional.

Klein - phunny you mention that. We got Klein for Del Zott0 a few years ago in a trade with NSH and he's been solid...up until this season. He's getting walked and exposed and we have him on our third pairing. He's just not fast, and I guess that's part of it. Not really sure how his outlet pass is, and that's an important part of the Rags' game.

He did indeed have two goals in one game the other night and at least one of them was at a very pivotal part of the game.

Who's making waves? JT Miller, Kevin Hayes, Michael Grabner.
To a lesser extent - Vesey and Buch are both having good rookie campaigns.
HM - Kreider - career-high season, I think, but haven't looked at the stats.

Stepan, Nash, and Zucc are all doing what they do well and in the past few games, it seems like Zucc has been shooting more, which is what we need.

Nick Lolden has his decent moments, but is not a great defensemen overall. McD has been holding down the d-line. Skjei is promising as a young, expansion-protected, LHD, but he's currently on the third pair. Staal is having somewhat of a bounceback season, defensively.

Girardi at this point...is Girardi. He was one of the worst contracts in the league last season, so expect nothing new this season. And AV shelters our 7th dman - Adam Clendening, who's played 20 games this season. AV has no idea what to do with the blueline and I think Nash and/or Zucc will be trade bait come TDL for a good RHD.

meow...who'd I leave out?
Most importantly - ZIBANEJAD, who replaced Derick fuckin Brassard, whom I loved. And when Brass was traded, even Zucc commented to the media about the team trading away his friends (not sourcing or finding a source, but keep in mind Hags to ANA as well), I wanted to be everything that Brass was and a second round pick (thanks OTT). So far, Zib's not great, but certainly not bad, and nothing short of what I'd expect from a 23 year old playing a 1A/1B center role.

Holy shit, I can't believe I wrote all of that out.

TL;DR - Rags are a playoff team with a bad blueline. If they stay-put at the TDL, they'll make the WC1 slot or maybe even a metro slot. If they trade for someone at the deadline, they need to win the trade immediately.

Yeah, Hayes is having an insanely good season. And I really only know and watch the Rangers like that. I'd probably be able to name 15 of 21 roster players from the hawks, but still...not really paying attention to everyone and their nuances.

Dude, I love the Maple Leafs though and not just Matthews. Nylander, Kadri, Marner, Andersen, Zaitsev - I love them.

And congrats to Sid for points 1000, 1001, and 1002. GWG to boot!

Fastest active player to 1000 :)

I'm pretty sure I could name most of the active roster for the Pens, and even a few WBS players. I should probably expand my knowledge outside of the Pens' roster, though. Of course, even that fact makes me a deeper hockey fan than most, right?

REALLY hoping the Leafs make the Playoffs this year--just hoping they don't have another heartbreak like they did against Boston...

I've been trying to step up my game on other players and trying to know what role they play on their team. And I've been trying this particularly this season. Posting on Kocher's Rangers forum has made me want to learn more. These guys, their contract knowledge, player knowledge, even positioning of the players - it's amazing.
