Flyers (obviously).

Barely pulled out an ugly win over Carolina last night, first win of the season... Hurray 1-3!

The new division is strange only because it's meow unbalanced. You have more teams in the Eastern than Western so odds will be tougher for playoffs. Other than that, I understand the changes, look at this map and the team's locations.

Let's Go Pens.

Also enjoy the Blue Jackets because a.) They are the only Ohio NHL team and b.) Nationwide arena is not only a nice place to watch a game, but most likely the only NHL arena I'll be able to afford a ticket for.

This thread could be the reason I stay here, so let's keep up the chatter.

The Ginas went 0-6, even as an Eagles fan, I feel for you.

Flyers are home tonight against the Flyers, I'm hoping they can pull off another win.

I was actually not happy with them firing Laviolette, I think he really took the fall there, but I guess we will see.

Is hockey not popular in Ohio that it's cheap to go see? I know I don't go to very many sports games because while a ticket might be reasonable (not football) the overall cost of the day is more than I want to spend.

The fact is that the closest team to me other than the Blue Jackets are the Pens, and getting into Consol Arena for less than $80/person (if you can even GET a ticket) is nearly impossible. Nationwide games are considerably cheaper.

As luck would have it, though, I don't really need to leave town that often for my hockey fix because Cincinnati is home to these guys:

Tickets for their games are at worst $20 and you can sit pretty much right behind the glass. Awesome experience!

BTW, phillyb™...first Stanley Cup Final I ever remember watching was between the Rangers and the Canucks in '94. Brian Leetch will always be one of my favorite players:

image

First--and, until Tim Thomas came along, only--American to win the Conn Smythe. Odd that once Thomas won, he was followed by Jonathan Quick and Patrick Kane in consecutive years.

Speaking of which...who are your favorite players here?

Don't forget...it was also the last lap for the last man to go without a helmet in the NHL: Craig MacTavish. How he was allowed to play like that even into the 90's is, in retrospect, almost appalling.

phunny you mention Aaron Asham...I kind of liked him during his time as a Penguin.

Oh that's not a coincidence, I think. Stars have a habit of bringing other stars (namely, stars they have played with before). That said, what's even more hilarious is that the coach of those big time Oilers teams has been Rangers GM for over a decade

P.S. - The Phantoms moved up your way. Don't hate. It's cheap, dirty, hardcore hockey. Let's figure out when they play the $hitty Rangers farm team.

It bounced off the post. He got kinda lucky. Speaking of getting lucky, Ryan Miller got lucky that the replay folks couldn't cleanly see the puck in his glove when it went clearly over the goal line when he picked off a waist-high shot from his knees in the Sabres' recent loss to the Blue Jackets.

Yeah...poor Richard Panik. He scores the tying goal, then gives up a penalty (leading to the winning PP goal) with less than a minute to go. Saw him go to the bench after the goal...yikes...:(

Look about 6.15 in on this video where the production crew botches a replay and Don Cherry decides to change the subject like a drunken uncle. This is why Coach's Corner (especially Don Cherry) is a bit of a joke--even though Cherry does have a point, sometimes.

Yeah...not sure if you're familiar, but Don Cherry is known for wearing some rather...questionable suits for the Coach's Corner segment on Hockey Night in Canada's coverage. I'm sure there's a blog or two dedicated to just making fun of the suits, much less ol' Grapes.

Here're some samples of his "work"

More here (toldja so).

One thing about Don Cherry that you have to remember...

...and he will NEVER let you forget it.
