Just so you know those trucks are pretty overpriced for what you're getting.. any of the trucks crazyblackman and I said would be a step up and they're in the same price range.

I dunno, I'll look around the next couple of days at work. I don't pay too much attention to how my trucks look since they get pretty beat lol. Look within those three brands and see if they have anything

Get some center cet wheels to get the most roll out them... If you can get zealous bearings they are great cause they come with spacers built in allowing your wheels to keep there shape

Well today has been more or less a great success as Borat would say. It was already useful when I was running late to class.

I will say it is not fun going down hills. It feels sort of darty.

I will take an other look at that board you linked that was on eBay.

It's a comfort thing.... You can call it what you want but if you can teach yourself foot breaking... Or sliding to a stop.... your set... It can be called a trick but I call it safety 101

Yeah sliding is something everyone should learn. I slide for fun but most of the time I'm sliding to either come to a stop or to slow down a bit for a corner I'm coming up on too fast. Foot breaking will work alright around campus but if you start going a little too fast it's not going to be a great option.

Re: Longboard

postby andy » 10/29/13 @ 21:32

Well for slowing down I was putting my foot down almost like a push but much slower. It worked pretty well.

I had a great experience today. I rode around the entire campus and found places I have never seen before.

I think for sure long boarding is for me so meow it is a question of what I want to get. I do intend on building it together rather than buying it pre assembled.

I am second thinking the whole drop down design. I was perfectly fine with what I was using.

This is the exact deck I was riding around on today.

Oh I do have a question. Every time I hit a groove between the sidewalk. (Every few seconds) It was rather uncomfortable and loud. What would be the ideal and comfortable grade for wheels? I would do a lot of riding on campus.

Would you guys advise a used deck and trucks? I plan on buying new wheels and bearings.

New wheels and bearings for sure.. Deck that's up to you I have a thing about used boards cause it's wood or bamboo and depending on how wet it got or how damaged it is would I guess vary my decision

I've always preferred new trucks though you can get those used if they're $25 anything higher you might as well just get new

College budget I know

Or what you could do is get a new board pre built. . And essentially "soup" it up with all that jazz

Get the abecs and never look back :). I don't like used trucks or wheels but I'll take a used deck any day and long as it's not water logged or cracked. I don't know what the long larding scene around here is pretty big, you can find REALLY nice used setups that'll cost you less than a new pre-built.

Okay.
Paris trucks they have pretry colors and life time warranty on hangers so if you bend one they will send you a new one free.

Gravity mini carve 42. Great commuting first board that can cruise for ever.

Or gravity spoon nose. It is bamboo and it rides similarly?

If you want a smaller deck go with a apex 34 as its very versitile.

Or an origonal arbiter for a more down hill ride.

Wheels.
Otangs are over priced.

Cloud ride slides are fun grippy until you gain speed.

Retro zigzags 78a are super grippy if you like to carve

And butterballs if you want to learn sliding l.

But the key is to ride everyday and not be a pussy when you fall.

Get slide gloves or make them, knee pads and a helmet. When you start to go faster and down Hills crashing hurts.

Also. Drop downs rock but if you are a newer rider be carefull when pushing. If your foot hits it. Death.

postby andy » 10/30/13 @ 09:41

Yah I'm not into carving or sliding. I would want a wheel probably with the most grip and smoothest ride.

I also wanted something around the 40-44 inch mark in length.

to me any type of skateboard just seems very impractical to me for travel uses. what's wrong with a cheap ass bike? longboards just seem like a lame way to say "I'm cool" in my opinion, unless you're like shredding down some crazy hills on one, I'm out.

Re: Longboard

I wanted a bike but then I would need a way to transport it. The only bike rack I would consider would be the oem volvo one and they are about $150 when you can find them. Then I need to find a half decent bike that I don't mind being stolen as it probably will or mostly will. Then the inconvenience of finding a place to lock it.

A lot of thought went into this and that is why I thought something much more portable would be needed. Like a longboard. i did briefly think about a scooter, but that is the lamest looking thing I have seen.

It's always difficult trying to build a board so I know what your going through.. What you can also do is start with just a cruiser and build that up that's what I did with my first boar ever

Longboard

postby andy » 10/30/13 @ 18:02

Want to spend $60-80. I was thinking eBay or Craigslist.

My use will only be commuting around campus.

Must have: be long like 40 inches or so. Comfy wheels so I don't rattle my teeth away. Deck that has clear grip tape. Wood bottom or mostly wood vs some painting. Pretty much it.
