Tougeworks D-ffuser

postby TistheJameson » 12/10/13 @ 21:26

I know a few of you are waiting for these to come out and I haven't been focusing all my time on this but finally getting around to them. Ordered material last week and it finally showed up today so the process starts here

image

I will keep this post updated as to the progress of them, have any questions? Shoot em below and I'll be happy to answer them

*Update*

Had to take the prototype to a machine shop to have them bend the wings (my tool couldn't bend that thick) and this is the outcome of it

image

Going to add the fins and have everything setup later this week, installation next week and then testing!

The prototype I'm working on is made out of 1/8" 6061 T4 aluminum. It might change depending on what the outcome of the testing will be. Eventually I want to make them out of carbon but I don't have the resources to put out a product I like at this time.

lol yes I plan on having a full kit for the diffuser. Granted Henry's splitter kit is a great product and I feel is worth every penny. The D-Ffuser will come with all the hardware to a be straight bolt kit on to any NA or NB, you will only need to cut your rear bumper for it to work properly. I will be working on a splitter kit for the NA's tomorrow and maybe it will come out good enough to sell

Will this be a functional rear splitter? If so, is it going to require custom exhaust routing?

Yes totally functional. I'm trying to make it work with the stock exhaust but each exhaust is different like my buddy club exhaust will require cutting for it to work properly. Eventually I was thinking about making an exhaust system to work along with my diffuser.

Decided I go with a different material so I started over with a new box and got the wings bent. Going get it mounted tomorrow and make wigs for the sides of the main box. The grand reveal will be at the Project-G 2 year meet which I will have a few on display and start pre-Orders on them. If you can't attend don't worry I will offer the same deals on here!

True statement...I didn't take a close enough look at it..just that little area is so small its barely a cut at all it feels like

The one I'm making meow will require it to be cut because of the aggressiveness of it. I've designed it to be more for track use where that much air flow can be used to its potential. I can make them less aggressive but to still have it functional it will still need to be cut, not as much as on my car (I did a quick hack job but getting a new one soon). If you don't cut it the diffuser won't work properly and be just for looks.

I can make custom ones for any car! Not just for Miata's but you'll have to make your own mounting points

I was actually talking to my NB friend a few minutes ago about mocking one up. The hardest part is finding a rear bumper he won't mind cutting up. Other than that I believe the mounting brackets are the same so hopefully they will fit NA/NB without modifications. Ill post pics when we get everything worked out for the NB

I've been doing some testing but lately my car has been broken so I can't really improve on it but what I started making you've probably seen on Instagram

image

image

This one is the most functional diffuser I've ever seen on a Miata, we realized the majority of air under the car goes up and around the rear diff so having a diffuser that's mounted low and all that air will be forced over the diffuser making it obsolete unless the underside is completely sealed. The most recent one Ive been working on starts at the top of the rear diff which doesn't allow any air travel over it, downside is it pretty much takes up the whole rear end and having a muffler will get in the way along with the crash pad had to be removed. I need to make it smaller because right meow it isn't very streetable. I can make custom ones for people local to me but as of right meow a "universal" Miata diffuser is hard to design because everyone has different exhausts, different wheel setups (surprisingly will make a difference as far as the side pieces are concerned). I can make a universal diffuser but modifying would be required, or if you give me measurements I can make you one to those sizes. Ill keep working on these and update when I can
