I also had a moment of time to do something on the KE70... lots of filler were used in the past

it's actually a friction cone and that make's it irreplaceable (fuck the spelling) unless you find a secon Fuji LSD... but it worked well when the guy took it out of the car (I drove it a couple of times) and I can always return it to him and get a full refund so I don't care that much... teeth on both ring and pinnion are fine

next stop, delring mounts

wanted to do something easy today... failed miserably.

I've been trying to get a MOOG replacement upper balljoint and one local guy told me he could get them... so today when I had the balljoint pressed out and was ready to do it, I found out he sent me just an ordinary balljoint, that fits, but will have to be tacked to the control arm... which means I'll have to wait for argon to be delivered so I can TIG weld it instead of burning the BJ with MMA/MIG

well this one's been obviously already changed once

imageIMG_20150317_125533 by GeorgeCZ, on Flickr

having a press at home really helps

imageIMG_20150317_135718 by GeorgeCZ, on Flickr

and new BJ in... would be real no brainer wasn't it for the dumb fuck who told me he'll get me the MOOG problem solvers

I finshed the engine swap today and have a weird sound coming from the intake side of the engine... seems to me like it's sucking air somewhere, but I'm not sure and would like you to chime in with other options.

it sounds a bit like a tractor meow

why not spray some carb cleaner around areas you think are leaking and see if the engine rev's up?

spraying the engine didn't reveal any vacuum leak. Had a friend have a quick look at it at a track I've been to during the weekend and it seems it's got a blown headgasket... I can't seem to get a break with this car. I'm really loosing motivation to do any further work on it.

decided to go for a drive even though the engine's not fine since I paid the entrance fee and couldn't find anyone to go instead of me. It's fine on dry surface, but understeers like crazy on wet... had to pull the ebrake many times to save me from understeering into the grass

yeah, it's actualy a go-kart track hosting several international races through the year. I'd say it's the perfect size for a miata.

in other news, I'll probably have to eat bread and drink water this whole month to cover the engine rebuild

decided to take a break from cars and went for a coffee with the missus

image

but cars got back to me and I got to go for a spin in this

image

and the day before yesterday, this happened

image

99 BP, 60k on the clock. I can haz JDM?

image

and this bitch finaly made it home... when I went to fire it up and drive off of the trailer, it suddenly didn't want to start... no fuel. Easy fix, but it still didn't start.

Checked the distributor, coil, spark plugs, all fine. Later tried old spark plugs from the miata and it fired right up, so it's all good meow, just had to adjust the advance to fix the response a bit lol

image

friend came to have a look at the car and pick up his 16" watanabes for his S30 yesterday... his TE71 looks great

image

decided to check the timing today and all seems good... valve clearances are within specs... so I ended up pulling the ITBs and using the OEM manifold... just have to wait for tomorrow to try to start it

image

and this guy came to have a look at my cars

NEWS!

NB is sold, GS300 here I come!

image

it needs a bit of maintenance so plugs, brakes, timing belt, tensioner, tensioner's tensioner, valve cover gaskets, front right upper arm etc etc

image

the plug valley was full of oil and nasty grime

image

upper arm and front brakes/pads are on...

image

but the rears are not, because someone made a mistake and got LS400 vented rotors instead of GS300 solid ones and thus the calipers won't fit over them and I had to leave the car like this over christmass

image

next step is the rest of the maintenance package, then fixing the dented fender/bumper, polish the front lights and paint, suspension, wheels and so on

got the rest of the maintenance items from 'muricah and the new VVT solenoid seems to finally fixed the fucking jerking under operating temp. The rest will go on the car hopefully in one day when I get to work on the lift... there's water pump, thermostat, thermostat o ring, cam o rings, valve covers gaskets and the VVT solenoid that's already on the car. Not pictured are timing belt, tensioner pulley and tensioner piston
