Update!

Just before Christmas I started to gather bits and pieces for the new Audio install. You may remember back at Christmas I got these:

image

Unfortunately theres very little photos of the build itself as I done bits and pieces during my lunch breaks and after work at night.

I first started by removing the door cards, cleaning the insides of the doors and applying the sound deadening

image

image

Next I routed fresh speaker cable/RCA

Boot > Dash
Seats > Dash
Doors > Dash

Wasn't an easy task routing the new wires through the door, especially as the speaker cable is quite thick.

With those done it was time to mount the Cross Overs. I originally thought mounting them to the centre dash bar was a good idea,so I connected all the wires and mounted it. Tried to refit the glove box and it wouldn't shut, doh! So I managed to tuck them along the side of the glove box and the fuse box on the other side.

Next was mounting the new speakers and tweeters. Speakers were a doddle and fitted with zero problems. The tweeters needed mounting on the top of the of door card. So I cut a hole and gradually filed it bigger so it was a snug fit. I then made some brackets to hold the tweeters in place. Luckily the Hertz Tweeters have a small screw in the centre, which was perfect to use along with the fixing screw for the door card crash pad.

With those mounted and wired up,i got the door cards back together and it was time to wire up the amps. This was pretty straight forward, until I came across an old RCA lead had snapped inside the terminal on the Amp. After much fiddling about and prodding, that was sorted and it was time to hook up the live to the battery.

It works!

I changed the settings on the Head Unit to suit,i haven't done anything with the amps yet as I need to do some reading up first. But with it being 'out of the box' its a MASSIVE improvement over stock! Here are some phone videos

I just need to wait for some dry weather so I can remove the seats and route the new speaker cable through the seats and fit the new speakers :)

Gonna bore you with some more random photos. Its gonna be at least another 6 weeks until I have another decent update :(

The car is filthy, and this was a last minute decision :) I only had the camera and tripod,so had to rely on the camera settings and lights in the car park, which didn't help a great deal :/

Small update:

I got these made by Dan Heeks while the car was in the body shop having the respray. Finally got my good friend at Vinyl Works here in Norwich to fit them for me.
We did try fitting the stripes on the side skirts, but with how the skirts curve,it distorted the overall look of the stripes and didn't look right.

This bloke on Facebook was advertising that he can make replica GV Panels but at a 1/3 of the price of a genuine one. He claimed to have re-made the middle plate section as the originals suffer from warping. He was also using genuine Lotus Elise LED light units aswell as offering options on whether you wanted the reverse light and boot lock hole smoothed over or not.

I sent him £275 (approx. $460) at the beginning of September 2013 as a deposit for him to buy materials etc and then it would be 2-3 weeks for it to be completed. In the mean time he had moved house which pushed back work, then he crashed his car, then his dad passed away. I gave the bloke a chance, seeming as he 'had' some bad luck and I wasn't in much of a rush for it. Contact with him became less and less and he was really struggling to reply to any messages/calls/texts.

It got to New Year and I was getting pretty fucked off. I seeked legal advice, but as he doesn't have a fixed address,i couldn't take him to court. That's when I named and shamed him on MX5Nutz and more and more people started to come out of the wood work saying he's been conning people for the past 10 years and have take over £85,000 from various people/companies and even a CHILDREN'S CHARITY! (that's $142,111!)

The thread can be found here http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php? ... 137488&hl=

I stopped trying to make contact with him around February time,i knew I wasn't going to receive the part or money and I gave up hope completely.

In the background of all this,i came across the Rev9 group buy and at that price,i couldn't pass it up. Had to juggle my money about to afford it all straight away, but I certainly don't regret it!

Karma will bite James Sommerin in the arse,he better pray we don't cross paths in the future

Last Wednesday the MX5OC organized a Pirelli evening at a local Tyre Centre. The guys and gals from Pirelli created 5 sections for talks/demonstrations including revving the nuts off a 2013 Porsche Carrera S

You may remember waaay back at the beginning of the build that I had gotten my hands on a Fujitsubo 4-1 Manifold. I finally dropped it off to my friend James to have it heat wrapped.

There is only one cross over on the manifold, everything else is separately wrapped

Got the exhaust bay next door to my work to fit the Manifold along with my un-silenced de-cat and stainless mid section

A photo from the MX5OC Norfolk Meet last Wednesday

image

The Weekend Just gone i attended the biggest weekend modified car show here in the UK. I was lucky enough to be entered into the Top 50 Cars. caturday morning i received a call saying that i was inside the Main Hall with the top cars of the entire show. meow usually your car has to be of a extremely high level of modification/money spent to be inside,so you can guess i was a little bit excited about being inside!

image

image

image

image

A while ago i stumbled across a photo on Instagram,i took a liking to the composition and location and needed to replicate it with the Monster. The original photo was this:

image

I showed the photo to my Girlfriend who had stumbled across a location on her travels. So we took a drive out this evening to have a look, here are the results.

Attended a couple of Meets and Shows recently

image

image

image

I've been intrigued whether 9s would fit under the arches as they were rolled and flared when it was painted back in December. A friend of mine had some 15x9j ET0 with some 195/45/15 tyres kicking about so we had a trial fit.

image

image

image

image

image

image

image

I think its pretty much spot on,perhaps a 5-6mm spacer but thats all it'd need along with lowering a tad more.

Had a look for some new wheels in this fitment and the only ones i can find are Grid V,BM8,Alecia,RKR and the K7 (which has a higher offset though)
