Edit: Quick Google search and found my answer on Wikipedia.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/VR6_engine
"The name VR6 comes from a combination of V engine (German: V-Motor), and the German word "Reihenmotor" (meaning "inline engine" or "straight engine") - and so is described as a "Vee-Inline engine" (VR-Motor). It shares a common cylinder head for the two offset banks of cylinders. It has a specific sound that is unique and different than either inline or "V" engines. The engine is currently in use in a variety of VW models, one such example is the Volkswagen Passat NMS."
I like learning. :kitty:

Ah okay! That makes more sense. It's like slightly V shaped.

Huge photo dump from the Portugal trip in July. I should've uploaded these sooner. Oh well. Enjoy :phillyb™:

First stop was Lisbon, Portugal. We spent a couple of days here touring the sites and getting a feel for the country before we left for The Azores.

image

I was old enough to drink when I was there! :phillyb™:

image

While in Lisbon, we drove up to Obidos. It's this beautiful city surrounded by a large wall.
image
image
image

This set of photos is when we were staying in the Azores. The first island we visited was Pico.

I was pretending to be a rally driver with the rental car :kitty:
image

Spotted this mk3 Golf with some addons. Even on a small island, people still mod their cars.
image

Some of the views from our house on the cliff.
image
image

Drunk selfie? okay.
image

The next island we went to was São Miguel.
image
image

We also saw the volcano hot springs! Those were pretty rad.
image
image

TYBG for this awesome trip!
image

More touring of the island.

Tobacco fields!

And here is me with the Naked Cowboy in New York. We got to spend a day in NY between flights on the way back. I definitely miss this city a lot.

Thanks! These pics don't do it justice. You gotta go and see it all in person.

Here's a picture of my car. Actually got to drive it around and I happened to have my camera with me. I absolutely loved driving it around all day. I cannot wait until she's road ready and I start daily driving her. There will be a ton more pics once she's on the road.

I feel like I don't post the front of my car as much as I post the rear. This car is special because it is a Westmoreland edition mk2 Golf. This means that it was built in the US at the Westmoreland plant before it shut down. More history on the assembly plant here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswage ... d_Assembly

As you may have noticed, mk2 golfs and jettas have different front ends. The one my car has only came on mk2's made at the Westmoreland assembly plant. It is kind of rare but not as rare as some of the other mk2 swag out there.

Update on the car:

My mk2 has been at the shop for weeks meow. Guess what happened? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. They didn't even touch the car. Also, I was informed by the owner of the shop that my motor needs to be taken apart again. The knocking is supposedly coming from the piston wrist pins. Apparently, this is a common issue for VR6 motors. Why didn't they replace them or inspect them when they had the motor apart? If it's a common issue, they should have checked it out. I gave them the car asking them to take apart the motor and replace anything that needed it. The car still won't pass the BAR test and it is having all sorts of electrical issues. This is really frustrating especially since being in college does not allow me the funds or time to even see my car.

Hooray for doing a ton of stuff. So recently, I've been getting down and dirty on the mk2. Fixed all of the wiring issues and got the wipers and heater working. Also fixed the wires from the obd2 port so that it works. I also cleared all CEL issues and put in a new ECU that will hopefully allow the car to get smogged and become street legal for daily driving!! I will be scheduling an appointment to visit the state referee soon.

Also installed this cool Neuspeed rear strutbar in the trunk today:

Did some work this weekend to the mk2. caturday consisted of cleaning and re-greasing all of the door latches. They are all meow easy to open and close. Then I went to the junkyard and scored some goodies! Found a short shifter kit and a new gauge cluster from a Mk3 GTI. Installed those today (Sunday). The short shifter feels so good, a lot better than the sloppy and long OEM shifter. The new gauge cluster is narrower than the Passat cluster that was being used. It meow fits better with the trim piece and I can see all of the lights! Very productive weekend. I am pleased. :phillyb™:

Here's a pic of the gauge cluster. I still have to figure out how to wire the signal lights to work when I use my blinker.
image

Here is the short shifter compared to the stock shifter. Notice the pivot points are different.
image

This picture is a comparison of two years ago and today. My car grew two more doors and a two more pistons to match!

It rips and I love it! I'm planning on getting aftermarket cams to put in when I replace the lifters. Probably won't do much else engine mod wise. I want to keep it reliable. It'll mostly be exhaust and intake mods.

Been driving the car a lot lately. Almost ready to pass smog. Replaced an o2 sensor as well as the purge valve for the fuel return system. Hopefully it'll stop throwing codes.

I removed the side trim after this pic. I am planning on getting some other small exterior mods to change it up a bit.

In other news!

I'm really digging the new round headlight setup. I still have the squares stored in my room for later use once I straighten out the radiator support.

Labor Day weekend was filled with working on the Golf.

My amazing dad helped me reupholster my tired and ragged headliner. From 80's tan to Royal Blue Suede. I am really happy with the outcome.

image
image

We also lowered the car 1/4 of an inch all around. Adding the skid plate was a must because the oil pan hangs so low on these swaps.

image

Ended the weekend by installing these blue euro taillights I had ordered a few weeks ago. Had to wait for euro bulb trays so that I could fully wire them up. I love the way they look on the car! They really compliment the blue interior.

She has been a blast to drive and super reliable daily! For meow it's just cleaning her up and maintaining her. I've been putting together a rear disc conversion kit for the brakes. Had a little transmission problem the other day, but fixed it pretty quick. Nothing major, just a shift linkage piece snapping. Luckily I was only down the street from my house. Got the transmission into 2nd gear and drove home.

You can see where the linkage snapped. It's the piece that connects one of the cables to the transmission. It also has a weight on it for smoother shifting.
image

This piece made it so I couldn't get into gear!
image

Here is the broken linkage piece with the weight that attaches to it.
image

I did not know this but VW actually redesigned this linkage and weight design with a smaller, more ergonomic design. Was able to find the newer design in the local picknpull yard. The car shifts so much better than before meow.
