Took some crappy photos of this car last night in the dark. I'll share 'em once I get a chance to pull them off the memory card.

I will say that, in person, this car is 100% incredible. Mark+Mark outdid themselves. The finish is better than my black Miata that they did. It's spectacular and I thoroughly enjoyed drooling over it.
I used to have a Miata. Before that, I had a Miata.

A few pictures from our drive through the hill country a couple of days ago.

Driving Impressions... I'd say the car is probably 90% dialed-in which is remarkable considering how little TDR could drive it during the tuning process. Small sputter at 3500RPM which is easily solved by pushing the gas pedal to the floorboard. Starts and purrs like a kitten. (I'll try and get some videos up in the next few days.) Pulls hard through every gear and 100MPH is a quick progression through 4th. (3.90 gearing) Sounds better and pulls harder after 4000RPM to the electronic redline of 8000K although I usually shift around 6500RPM.

Handles like a go cart and I'd forgotten how great it feels to not have power steering. Definitely a drivers car and the constant conversation between Scrat and me is quite fun.

There are a myriad of little things left to be done i.e. gauges. I'm hoping to have some time this evening to address the headlamps and get them adjusted properly so I can readjust the headlamp lids.

Amazing job on that car. I love how the tail light panel is molded in, makes the fit of the factory lights and rear panel just look sloppy. Have you ever considered a fastback for it?

Fastbacks can look good, just not on Scrat. Unless you molded it in like the GV panel and then you just have a coupe.

stoly on cr wrote:Book of First Clubroadster, Chapter 15, verse 1. Stoly wept.

And apparently this is what happens when I decide to not drive 50 miles one way to go to the machine shop that filled in the holes on my first Capri VC. Instead I looked up the best aluminum welding shop in New Braunfels and San Marcos and found my 'winner'.

Their version of filling in the holes was to tap a screw into them and grind them off. WTF Part One. To fill in the hole on the back they decided to tap in a really big bolt and grind it off. WTF Part Two. WTF Part Three is that in doing so they pushed so hard on the front of the VC that they broke the corner right at the cam lobe.

FML...

So, one step forward and two steps back. I was pissed at their idea of filling in the holes (they did NOT tell me about their theory until I came to pick it up) but thought I could probably fix the little cracks before having it painted/powder coated/what-have-you. Then I saw they'd broken it right where I'd like to not have oil come out...

Was really hoping to be able to get some drive time in before Texas eases into its summer abode which is 40 miles from the surface of the sun; however, with each passing day it looks more and more like we'll not get to really enjoy the car until this fall... I have a couple of leads on my third VC but this is starting to get ridiculous.

Silver lining? I'd been thinking about having all the ridges and letters/numbers ground down so it is just smooth on both sides of the spark plugs. No words, no numbers, no ridges. Looks like I meow own the piece I can have that theory tested on before deciding what to do with the third VC in less than a 1000 miles of actual driving...

Shitty fill-in...
image

Shitty fill-in part deux...
image

What the fuck is wrong with people?!?
image

And this is why we can't have nice things...
image

In theory, the indented letters/numbers are actually only down to the main surface so, again, in theory, I should be able to get the entire thing smoothed. Going to have a shop test that theory on the thickest part on one side (numbers/letters) to see if it is even possible. If so, I'll have the next one smoothed out.

image

Hope my theory pans out... I think it'll look awesome smoothed and powder coated.
